Android 15 features. Here is what you need to know

Starting today, Android 15 is rolling out to Pixel devices, bringing a bunch of upgrades designed to make your phone safer and smarter. This update packs new security features to better protect your personal, financial, and health information from theft and fraud.

We’ve also made improvements for large-screen devices, helping you multitask and get more done with ease. Plus, you’ll see updates across several apps — including the camera, messaging, and passkeys — making your everyday experience smoother.

Android keeps getting better all year round, not just once a year. Recently, we’ve added powerful AI tools like Circle to Search and new ways to use Gemini on your device. And now, with Android 15, there’s even more to explore. Here’s what’s new!

Help Prevent Theft and Recover Your Device Faster

Your phone’s safety just got smarter. The new Theft Detection Lock uses AI to help protect your data if someone tries to snatch your device. If your phone detects sudden movement — like someone running, biking, or driving away with it — it will automatically lock itself to keep your information secure.

You can also take control from afar with Remote Lock, which lets you quickly lock your phone from any device using just your phone number and a simple security check. Both of these features are now available on most devices running Android 10 and above.

With Android 15, we’re adding even more layers of protection to keep thieves out. Now, extra authentication is required for settings that are often targeted — such as removing your SIM card or disabling Find My Device. Your phone will also lock down automatically after multiple failed attempts to access apps or change settings.

These new tools make it harder for thieves to unlock, reset, or resell stolen devices — and help stop theft before it happens.

Keep Your Sensitive Apps Out of Sight

With Private Space in Android 15, you can finally keep your most personal apps truly private. Think of it as a digital safe on your phone — a separate, secure space where you can store apps like your banking, dating, or social media accounts.

When your Private Space is locked, those apps are completely hidden — they won’t appear in your app list, recent apps, notifications, or settings. To open it, you’ll need an extra layer of authentication, ensuring only you can access what’s inside.

And if you want even more privacy, you can hide the existence of Private Space altogether, keeping it invisible to anyone who might use your phone.

Get More Done on Foldables and Tablets

Android 15 brings new tools to help you stay productive on larger screens — whether you’re writing an email, editing a document, or multitasking on the go.

On foldables and tablets, you can now easily pin or unpin your taskbar, giving you the freedom to customize your workspace just the way you like it. Keep your favorite apps — like Gmail, Google Photos, or Docs — within easy reach for faster access and a smoother workflow.

Multitask Smarter with App Pairing

With App Pairing in Android 15, multitasking on foldables and tablets is easier than ever. You can open two apps side by side — like Google Drive and Gmail — to drag and drop files effortlessly between them.

You can even save your favorite app combinations, which will appear as a single shortcut on your home screen. Just tap once to open them together in split-screen view and jump straight into getting things done.

Log In Securely, Capture Better Photos, and More

Android 15 brings even more upgrades to the features you use every day — from your camera and messages to how you log in. Here’s what’s new:

  • Better photos in low light: Low Light Boost and enhanced in-app camera controls help you take clearer, brighter photos in darker settings. Plus, third-party apps now get more precise control over the flash for improved shots.

  • Stay connected anywhere: Carrier messaging apps can now use satellite connectivity to send and receive messages even when you don’t have mobile service or Wi-Fi.

  • Simpler, faster logins: Apps that use Passkeys for authentication now let you log in with just a single tap — quick, easy, and secure.
